Volunteers Needed for Grit Mill Project in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Mountain Accord recently helped fund a trail restoration and rehabilitation project at the Mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon, spearheaded by the Salt Lake Climber’s Alliance. This Saturday, June 26 (8:30 a.m. to noon) the Grit Mill project is seeking volunteers to help with trail work and graffiti removal.

If you’re interested in joining and getting a first hand look at the project, please call 801-466-6411 or email volunteer@cottonwoodcanyons.org to register. Be sure to wear long pants, boots or other sturdy close-toed shoes, and work gloves. Work gloves will be provided for those who need them. Please bring your own hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks, water bottle, weather appropriate clothing, and other personal items as needed. More details here.

The Grit Mill Project is already underway and is an example of the type of trail organization and planning Mountain Accord stakeholders seek to implement throughout the Central Wasatch. Better trails, trailheads and signage reduce ad hoc or “spiderwebbed” trails, cut down on erosion and watershed damage and encourage sustainable use for hikers, bikers and climbers in the Central Wasatch’s most heavily tracked recreational areas. Read more about the project here.
